Our mission goes
Beyond the Bread
It is always been our belief that a business should do more than simply provide the goods and services that are their main reason for being.
Our mission is to craft great food using traditional methods and carefully selected high quality ingredients while minimize our impact on the environment, supporting the growers and producers of our ingredients, honoring the employees at the core of everything we do, and giving back to the community that has nurtured us for over 25 years.
Here's a Look at how we did in 2025
WE PURCHASED
695,899
Pounds of grain and flour from regional farms and farm-based mills. That's about 350 acres worth of organic crop production that didn't need to be hauled thousands of miles across the country, and that's just grain.
This number doesn't include all the apples, potatoes, dairy and vegetables also sourced from local farmers.
WE GAVE AWAY
11,200
Pounds of bread and 1,400 pastries to local causes, events and fundraisers. A little over half of our donated bread goes to Community Harvest of Central Vermont, who redistributes the loaves to food insecure community members. However , we were also able to contribute to plenty of school fundraisers, town meeting days, community meals, teacher's appreciation days, after-school programs, and more.
OUR CAFE CUSTOMERS RAISED
$26,734
For local causes. We do not accept tips in our cafe. Instead, if you feel like you have a little extra to give, you can donate to our cause of the month. In 2025, we donated to:
- Mentor Vermont
- Vermont Family Network
- Central Vermont Refugee Action Network
- Flight Experience for Youth
- Feast/Meals on Wheels - Montpelier
- Camp Agape
- Central Vermont Community Harvest
- Mad River Seniors
- Washington County Schools
- Circle
- Capstone: Fuel Your Neighbors
- Wood4Good
- Waterbury Common Market
WE EMPLOYEED
59
People full time, and thanks to your continued support of our business, we were able to offer all of them wages above the industry standard for our area, health care benefits, paid time off, a retirement plan with employer match, and other wellness perks.
OUR EMPLOYEES BIKED A COMBINED
7,957
Miles to and from work , saving an estimated 3.216 kg of C02 emissions.
With the support of our community, we're able to offer free bicylce repairs and gear sourcing assistance to employees who commit to commuting via bicycle as often as they are able. We also donate yearly to Worl Bicycle Relief, an organization that helps people around the world gain access to bicycles.
