Red Hen Baking Company Makes Quality Delights Of All Types

By Elisha Neubauer

Life on the West Coast was great for Randall George. He was doing what he loved, baking for a well-respected company, but something was missing. George and his wife, Lisa, were both originally from the East Coast and they realized they were both a little homesick.

Once they decided to pack up and relocate to the coast of their childhoods, it seemed an easy path. However, George realized quickly that the area they opted to move to, Middlesex, Vermont, had no bakeries creating the type of bread that he enjoyed baking.

There seemed to be only one logical choice. George decided to create his own little haven, where he could bake what he enjoyed. He launched the Red Hen Baking Company upon his arrival.

“Vermonters have a long tradition of supporting their local bakers, so I thought that we would be well-received, but I never could have imagined that we would get so much support,” George said.

Today, the Red Hen Baking Company operates under one important mission: to produce premium quality breads and pastries with traditional methods and carefully selected high quality ingredients.

Of course, this isn’t the company’s only focus. They strive to minimize their impact on the environment, to support the growers and producers of their ingredients, and to provide the finest baked goods and service to their customers.

When it comes to their baking, however, George has one strict concentration.

“Our focus is on the process; the magical process of fermentation that happens when you mix flour and water together,” George said. “Although we play around with different combinations of ingredients, fermentation and the flavors and textures that are created in that process, is central to our breads.”

The establishment itself is as warm and inviting as the breads they make. The Red Hen Baking Company offers guests a friendly, relaxed environment where everyone feels welcomed. Whether families with young children or business men and women having a meeting to people just passing through on their way elsewhere, the Red Hen Baking Company opens their doors to everyone just the same.

“Whether it’s coffee and a pastry or full breakfast in the morning; soup, salad and a sandwich for lunch; or picking up a loaf of bread, some local cheese, and your favorite beverage for your evening, we’ve got you covered,” George said.
